A Plain-Spoken Process

We believe in complete transparency in our process from start to finish, and follow the steps below with every client — no matter how big or how small.

As operators and analysts, we aim to do a root cause analysis. A root cause analysis in this context means that we listen to business owners about how they were affected by COVID-19 restrictions, and determine what exactly caused those issues. For example, an employer may have had depleted inventory and lower production of that key product in a particular region. In that case we would work with them to find out what caused these issues (such as a government ordered shutdown) to explain if and how COVID-19 impacted them. 

Step one

ERTC Eligibility Interview

We perform a recorded eligibility interview with every owner or executive to understand how their entity was impacted by COVID-19.  We take the time to understand the products and services they provide, where they do business, which markets they serve, their workers, their suppliers, and what happened during COVID-19.

Step two

Document Review

We focus on key impacted areas and seek payroll and supply chain documents, records and analysis that help them prove whether or not they might be eligible for the credit. We try to document what happened, when, and why it happened. We perform a lot of analysis, review of supplier letters, timing of events, facts and circumstances. We work with the client throughout the entire process, sometimes for weeks, to ensure that everything is correct.

Step three

Payroll Review

With our client’s permission or directly from them, we retrieve all of the detailed, weekly payroll analysis. This often means retyping manual payroll records and inputting them in another tool, where they will be used in the next step.

Step four

IRS Compliance Check

We proof the original 941’s, verify owners, affiliations, family relations, and other related businesses to ensure compliance with the rules. We also proof signed PPP forgiveness documents and calculations and ensure they are proper. We review all of the calculations and put them into our tool to cross reference against the payroll data to ensure there is no overlap.

Step five

Financial Analysis

Our analysis department will complete the financial analysis.

Step six

Government Orders

We will retrieve from our database all relevant government orders that have impacted the client, their suppliers, their workers and where they conduct their business or mission.

Step Seven

IRS Guidance

We will then ALWAYS go back to the IRS authoritative guidance and do the following: cite authoritative guidance, write about the client’s specific facts and circumstances and provide evidence when available, and cite government mandate orders.

Step Eight

Client Review

We provide the client with a full written report for them to review, edit and share with their trusted advisors, such as an income tax preparer.

Step Nine

Final Review & Sign Off by CPA

We prepare the 941-X and have an independent CPA review everything and sign off.
